Our toddler will be starting pre-k soon. The school is asking if they can bill our private health insurance, which is optional? Why would we say yes?
Have any of you redditors ever agreed to this? Were there any negative effects on your plan? During enrollment we are being asked if we want to allow the school to bill our health insurance to help the school fund school-based wellness services, which they are already legally mandated to provide. The option is being presented as a way to help fund the schools. They ensure us that our premiums will not go up, and that we will not be billed in any way to pay out of pocket. Are there any good reasons to do this, besides altruism? We have private health insurance, and our toddler is very healthy, no health concerns. Here is the exact wording: School X participates in California's Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), which allows schools to seek reimbursement from Medi-Cal and commercial health plans for eligible school-based wellness services provided to students.
