Quest Diagnostics billed me nearly 1k

Hi, I am a 20 year old college student, and last month I went to the CVS Minute Clinic for a UTI because I don’t have insurance and I thought it would be the most cost effective. I ended up being charged around $300 for tests and medicine and I thought that was it. However, today I received a bill in the mail from Quest Diagnostics for $964 and I feel totally blindsided. The physician there never discussed any of this with me, and she only told me what I would be charged at the CVS clinic. So basically, I had no idea Quest Diagnostics was even in the picture and I don’t have insurance and I don’t know how I am going to pay this bill. Do I have to pay this bill? How will it affect me financially if I do and if I don’t? All advice is appreciated. I am in the state of New York and along with the bill, I received some paperwork about protection against surprise billing but I don’t know if that applies to me. submitted by /u/Popular-Honeydew2147 to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]
