Things I want the US public to know as someone who works in banking...

Financial Institutions do not control how much a gas station places on hold in your account. I know the gas stations like to say this, but its not the case. If it was, don't you think, a bank or CU would charge the same amount regardless of which gas station you went? When a company is refunding you something, we cannot give you any update on when that money will be available in your account. If the amount you paid on something is different than what you thought it should have been, call the merchant first, not your FI. Trying to circumvent a check hold by making a deposit via the ATM or mobile deposit is a good way to get your account restricted or closed. It raises more red flags than a gathering of the Chinese Communist Party. We do not want to ask you so many questions, so if we are its because we are either required to do so because of a law or regulation, or we are trying to protect you from fraud. submitted by /u/tjrich1988 to r/Banking [link] [comments]
