Auto loan, why does the dealership want to run my credit?.

I am financing through navy fed. I have a check ready. Yet Toyota Dealership sales guy is asking me to fill out a financing application to "verify my identity " He texted me "We do not submit it to any lenders because you are pre approved with Navy fed. It is a simple inquiry to make sure you are not on a "do not sell" list due to all of the fraud that is out there. The only way to not have credit ran is with straight cash or a cashiers check which is basically cash" am I dumb if I walk away? UPDATE ******* THANK YOU EVERYONE. I stood my ground. He ended up saying it was the dealerships policy and he was very passive aggressive threated not to sell me the car. I was ready to walk and he said, " well let me talk to my management." Turns out it wasn’t needed, finance guy cleared everything with Navy Fed and I purchased the vehicle! He had openly told me they would NOT beat my 4% with Navy fed. So no, it was not necessary. submitted by /u/Angrygoth to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]
