This sub proves that way too many unqualified people are jumping into grad school because of the job market

Looking at the posts on this sub, it’s actually comical how over half the posts are from prospective students who clearly don’t understand the basics of how this works. And instead of using search engines for basic info that’s already been answered 100 times, they post on here asking people to hold their hand like a child. And they get the same annoyed comments telling them to learn how to use google. Monitoring this sub for the last few months and increasingly seeing more and more low quality posts asking the same thing, I’m starting to think there’s a genuine shift in the quality of candidates applying to grad school right now. And this shift is definitely for the worst. It’s like so many low quality candidates who never even cared about doing research, but they graduated into debt and unemployment. So they think grad school will pummel them out of it; every job these days asks for a masters right! If the job market wasn’t what it was today, over half the people applying to grad school right now wouldn’t be. Very few actually want to do research - education at the graduate school is just becoming a new vehicle to shooting your shot at getting out of poverty. submitted by /u/feebs…
