Parents who didn’t have college fully funded… tell me how you made it work.
I had my son at 17 and raised him as an only parent. We’ve come a really long way, the two of us! He’s now a young man with big career goals which I’m super proud of… He’s off to University of Oklahoma to study energy management. **BUT I’M (secretly) STRUGGLING** I have no idea how I’m going to pay for this. I make a good living, but I definitely did not have the means to build a college fund over the last 18 years. Even after minimal scholarships and stacking the loans available to us, we still have about a $20k gap this year… with three more years to go… I’d love to hear from anyone who has been in this position. Did it all work out? What did you do? Did you find more scholarships after freshman year, pay as you went, take additional loans, find other resources? Am I going to have $80k in loans to pay for when this is all said and done? In addition to all of the loans he’ll have as well? Basically looking for any advice and a little reassurance. 🙏 Also, this is my first time posting to Reddit, so if I did anything incorrectly, please forgive me!
