H1B → H4 pending → H1B COS: Anyone done this recently?

Has anyone successfully filed an H1B Change of Status while their H4 COS (I-539) was still pending? Situation: H1B → file H4 COS → H4 pending → get new job → employer files H1B COS with premium processing I’m seeing several cases where USCIS sends an RFE asking for an approved H4/I-94 or proof of valid status , while the H4 itself is still pending for months. For anyone who went through this recently: Did you get an RFE on the H1B? What exactly did USCIS ask for and how did your lawyer respond? Did USCIS approve the pending H4 first and then the H1B COS? Did your employer/lawyer have any issue filing H1B COS while H4 was pending? Were you ultimately approved for H1B COS without leaving the US? Especially interested in recent 2025/2026 experiences and timelines. Any help would be greatly appreciated! submitted by /u/shivtomar to r/h1b [link] [comments]
