21 and about 73k in debt
hi guys, i’m here for some advice and, honestly, hopefully someone will tell me the truth about how fucked i actually am. i’m 21 years old, and for some context, i completely support myself financially and don’t have any financial help from my parent. another thing that really stresses me out is that my mom has nothing saved for retirement. she never even knew what a 401k was or let alone how to start it. i’m terrified that she’s going to have to work for the rest of her life until she physically can’t anymore, and that eventually the financial burden will fall on me. okay, now onto my debt. $50k student loans i’m graduating with a bachelor’s in psychology. yes, i know that amount is insane. i go to a private school, which is probably my biggest financial regret, but i’m in my last year now and there’s not much i can do about it. by the time i graduate next year, i expect my total student loans to be around $50k. $13k car loan $10k credit card debt so that’s about $73k total debt at 21. as far as my career goes, i currently work in HR and thankfully have a long-term job offer. if i stay with the company after graduation, i’d likely be making around $66k-$70k a year in the Bay Area.…
