Deferring enrollment? Surgery planned.

Hi all, My kiddo is a senior looking mostly at European, UK, and Canadian universities. Against all odds, with dyslexia and AuDHD, he is ranked the top of his class. We have all worked our ass off to just help him be at level, and feel like a regular kid, and then transition genders when that became a thing that was necessary for his evolution too. We never even contemplated that all of the struggle that he and the family went through could get him here. I know that foreign schools probably put less weight on this. I’m hoping it helps a bit. He has already gotten one offer from a college he hasn’t applied to. It’s great, and encouraging as he’s had such a tough road to get here. Here’s the thing: He plans to take a gap year to get a pretty major surgery done before enrolling in school. He will probably do a semester at a community college, then do some classes online while recovering. Should he apply now as a senior while things look good, and ask for deferred enrollment, or is that not an option in other places? Should he wait and apply later? Should he just go to school, then have me fly out to take care of him after surgery and get a medical waiver for a time? I don’t know how t…
