Advice on building a funded PhD school list (biology major interested in neuroscience and drug discovery)

Hi everyone! I’m a biology undergraduate planning to apply for Fall 2027 PhD admission. I’m trying to narrow my interests and build a realistic school list. I’ve generalized some details for privacy. Background Biology BS at a US public university, graduating in spring 2027. Approximately 3.9 GPA. US citizen, open to US and international programs. Seeking tuition coverage and a living stipend. Hoping to start directly after undergrad; not considering MD or MD/PhD programs. Research experience Multiple years of animal behavior research at my home institution. Developed an independent behavioral experiment, received university research funding, and am preparing a conference poster. Completed a competitive summer neuroscience research program at Yale, with several hundred hours of research. That project involved nervous-system injury and plasticity in an animal model. My work included designing a novel immunohistochemistry staining technique, microscopy/image analysis, and troubleshooting an experimental workflow.
