H-4 EAD is not just a work permit. For families like mine, it is the ability to keep our family together and our lives stable.
I came to the U.S. from India on an H-1B visa 13 years ago. I came here because of my education, professional experience, and career. At that time, I never imagined that 13 years later, my family would still be living in immigration uncertainty. When my kid was only five months old, I brought them with me to the U.S. because I could not leave my baby behind. My husband made one of the biggest sacrifices of his life—he left his job in India and came with us so we could raise our kid together. He tried to rebuild his career here. He tried H-1B sponsorship multiple times, but was never selected in the lottery. We explored other options as well, including F-1, L-1, but nothing worked. Then H-4 EAD gave him a chance. After years of sacrificing his career, he finally found a job, worked hard, and rebuilt his professional life. He worked for several years, and his employer eventually even tried to sponsor his H1 but again it didn’t pick in lottery.
