Has anyone successfully used 100% P&T VA disability as I-864 income without a joint sponsor?

I’m a U.S. citizen and 100% P&T disabled veteran sponsoring my wife and two stepchildren. My VA disability compensation is recurring and exceeds the income requirement for our household size. Our paralegal says we need a joint sponsor because my tax return does not show enough taxable income. However, VA disability is tax-exempt, so it does not appear as taxable income. Has anyone successfully used VA disability as their primary or only I-864 income? What documents did you submit, and did you receive an RFE or get approved without a joint sponsor? I can provide my VA benefit letter, 100% P&T letter, DD-214, bank statements showing the deposits, and tax transcript.
