expectations of a thesis-based msc application?

hi everyone, i'm a us undergrad looking into applying to a thesis-based msc program (neuroscience, canada) for fall 2027. i'm unfamiliar with thesis-based mscs, so i have a few questions. for admission into this program, i must have confirmation of a supervisor. when reaching out to potential supervisors, how specific do i need to be with my interests? essentially, as the program is based around a thesis, do i need to have a very specific idea of a project? one of the labs i'm interested in is new, so no publications have come out of that group yet, which makes this more difficult as all i have to go off of for their current research projects are short bios on their lab website*. would it be fair to mention when reaching out something like "i saw current project descriptions by lab member, i was interested in X project, and i would be interested in learning more about it." if it's program specific, it's mcgill if anyone has any info. thanks in advance xo *there are a handful of papers with the supervisor as an author relating to some of the topics, but they're multiple years old & idk how much they've advanced since then (if that makes sense) submitted by /u/StretchQuiet1743 to…
