Laid off while STEM OPT application processing - what's gonna happen?

Hi everyone, international student here. My initial OPT ended on 9th July 2026 (07/09). I applied for STEM OPT on June 26, 2026 (06/26) with premium processing. Got biometrics done on Aug 12, 2026 (08/12) - so Premium processing clock started then. I got laid off from my job on 08/21, and the employer says they must report laying me off within 5 days (I know that's the rule). I'm in talks with them to see if they can keep me working till my application goes through, but chances are slim. I wanted to ask - if the employer reports me as fired on their portal, will my STEM application get denied? Since my OPT has ended, I have no unemployment days left from it. Does that mean I'll immediately enter the grace period to leave the US? Would appreciate any input and help, if you've been through something similar. Thanks!! submitted by /u/IncidentWaste1269 to r/f1visa [link] [comments]
