Can i sell and buy the same stock in the same day?

Hi all. I have around 1 year of college left and have some investments from about 5 years ago. All of the investments are broad ETFs and have grown so I'm wondering if I'm allowed to sell everything and then buy it right away to avoid paying any capital gains tax while I don't have a job and sit below the $49,950 income limit for single filers for 0% capital gains tax? Edit: thanks to all the answers from everyone. After looking into it a bit further, I think the kiddie tax would apply so I wouldn’t be able to do this. Still super interesting of the ways to get around taxes as I’m still learning it all submitted by /u/Sporty-Ladder-34 to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]
