Error on new Green Card: First name repeated as middle name. How to correct and current processing times?

My son received his new 10-year replacement Green Card this week, but there is a clear typographical error made by USCIS. Part of his first name was incorrectly repeated in the middle name field (so his first name effectively appears twice on the card). He does not have a middle name. A few questions for anyone who has gone through this process: How do we officially request a correction? Is this filed via Form I-90? Fee & Physical Card: Since this was a mistake on their end, I believe there shouldn't be a fee, but do we need to mail the original incorrect card back with the application? Timeline: Approximately how long does it take USCIS to issue a corrected Green Card for USCIS-caused errors? Temporary Proof: In the meantime, while waiting for the new card, how does he show proof that he’s a Lawful Permanent Resident? Any advice, personal experiences, or tips on navigating this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! submitted by /u/Wonderful-Ear9836 to r/greencard [link] [comments]
