My MIL just sold her house and moved down to our town and into a 55+ apartment complex nearby. Where should she put the home sale money if she's 80?

Her bills run about $2100 a month, and she gets $1700 a month from SS, so the social security is short about $400 a month. She has $25,000 in savings, and will net $190,000 from the home sale that is closing this month. I was advising my wife to just toss it in a HYSA and use that for her overage and other costs, but wanted to run it by you guys. She is 80 and in relatively good health. But again, she's 80. Thanks for any advice. submitted by /u/Ninjroid to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]
