My kitchen counter gets flooded with physical paper mail every tax season
Every year around this time, I run into the exact same frustration with physical paper mail. Between medical bills, property tax notices, donation receipts, and various tax forms arriving at completely random times, my desk and kitchen counter turn into a total mess of envelopes. The biggest issue for me has always been sorting the junk from the important stuff. Last tax season, I accidentally recycled a valid deductible medical expense receipt because it was tucked inside what looked like a standard insurance promotional flyer. I tried using standard phone document scanners, but taking flat PDFs of everything still left me with hundreds of unorganized files that I had to manually rename, tag, and sort through when filing taxes on TurboTax. Lately, I've been trying to force myself to open and process every envelope the exact minute it comes out of the mailbox instead of letting them pile up on the counter. It takes more discipline, but it seems to be the only way to avoid losing track of receipts buried under credit card offers and junk mail. submitted by /u/Fantastic-Bit-8829 to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]
