Choosing to live in an apartment when I can afford a house (24)
I'm 24 and live with my parents in southern Florida, I make good money for my age and at this point buying a house is very double even with a 40% + down payment. Having never lived on my own (for an extended period of time) I am tempted to rent a luxury high rise apartment for 12-24 months to asses where I want to live. Most people tell me to either continue living at home saving money or buy a house because an apartment is wasting money. My response to that is continue saving for...how long? Rent would be expensive (likely $4,750/month) but I see it as a temporary thing rather than a long term plan. People also tell me to just rent somewhere cheaper. I've toured cheaper apartments, I would rather purchase a home than live somewhere I can hear my neighbors conversations and my view out the window is just a road. I value privacy, space, freedom, and location. A house gives me two of those, an apartment also two, a luxury high rise could protentional hit 3-4. submitted by /u/HD4kAI to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]
