How would a Nepal B.Sc. General degree be interpreted in terms of major/minor for masters/phd?
Hi everyone, I’m trying to understand how my bachelor’s degree from Nepal would be interpreted by universities in the US or Europe. I’m enrolled in a 4-year B.Sc. General under Tribhuvan University. Unlike many US universities, we do not choose our major when we enter the program . Instead, we begin by studying a combination of subjects. For example, I chose: Physics Mathematics Statistics & Probability I study all three subjects for the first two years. In the third year, I have to drop one subject (I’ll drop Physics), so I’ll continue with Mathematics and Statistics & Probability. In the fourth and final year, I drop one more subject (I’ll drop Statistics & Probability), leaving only Mathematics, which becomes my specialization. The program is yearly (not semester-based) , although each year covers material comparable to two or three semesters at many universities. The syllabus is quite rigorous and, after comparing it with courses from foreign universities, I found the mathematical content to be of a similar level. My questions are: When applying to universities in the US or Europe, would Mathematics simply be considered my major? Could Statistics & Probability r…
