Wife tried to open a savings account at two different banks, denied both times

Just like the title says, my wife wanted to open a savings account for the first time in her life, and both with PNC and Ally, they said they could not open an account for her at this time. Which was particularly odd with PNC, as she already has a checking account there. To both our knowledge, she doesn't have any debt besides medical debt, and after speaking with an accountant, they said they could not think of any reason why someone would be denied banking services at a bank they already have an account open with. Any ideas, anyone experienced this? We were planning on opening her an IRA to roll over two 401ks from prior employers, but are worried we'd have the same thing happen. submitted by /u/kaloonzu to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]
