Received $4000 in gold coins for kids education, hold or sell?

I received roughly $4k worth of gold coins with explicit instructions to use the money for my kids educations. I don't know anything about gold, or coin collecting. I have a modest 529 set up for each kid with about 10k in each. The person who gave me the coins isn't in the gold or coin space either, they received the coins 40 years ago and forgot about them, so they aren't a resource either. The coins aren't particularly valuable as coins - they're valuable for the gold content. The coins are ungraded. submitted by /u/notnotbrowsing to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]
