mil husband & i found out this friday that he’s 3k in debt, and we have to pay it off today or else our housing application is cancelled
Long story short, when he was 19 and 2 months away from joining the navy, his aunt and uncle added him to a lease then broke it. Now, the three of them collectively owe 3k. husband was able to call collections, he was informed that aunt and uncle have been DODGING calls because they already have a house. we can pay 2,700 this month, however, and be free. his aunt and uncle never informed my husband that he owed anything, and most of what is owed is his aunt and uncle’s doing. Today, we got a call from the places we applied to saying that they need prove that it was paid today, or we can say goodbye to housing. We’ve been running towards military lawyers and banks today, but his loan was denied, and they wouldn’t tell us why nor did they let us appeal. Lawyers are not available til later this week, but unfortunately that clashes with what the apartments need to see today. what the heck do we do. His aunt and uncle are very unlikely to pay, even if we explained the situation. They have their own house, and if the situation isn’t directly affecting them, they won’t help immediately. submitted by /u/iamlizokayyy to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]
